WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Atlas Watersystems performs water quality assessments for any job. Call 800-539-1100 or contact us online for more information.

The first step towards choosing a water purification system is testing the current water quality to determine what the system needs to achieve.

Residential Water Quality Testing

Atlas Watersystems, Inc. performs water quality assessments to test for:

  • Hard water
  • Abnormal Ph and elevated levels of: iron; manganese; total dissolved solids (TDS); alkalinity; and chlorine.
  • Radon testing - Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that may cause cancer, and may be found in drinking water and indoor air. Current maximum allowable levels of radon in water are 10,000 Pico curies per liter in Massachusetts, 2,000 in New Hampshire, 20,000 in Maine and 5,000 in Connecticut and Rhode Island. The Federal EPA is looking to set a national standard for a maximum allowable level of radon in water.
  • Arsenic testing- According to a 1999 study by the National Academy of Sciences, arsenic in drinking water causes bladder, lung and skin cancer, and may cause kidney and liver cancer. The study also found that arsenic harms the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as heart and blood vessels, and causes serious skin problems. It also may cause birth defects and reproductive problems. The Federal EPA has set a maximum allowable level of arsenic in water of .01 parts per million. Local boards of health may set lower levels which can override the federal level.

These impurities cause Common Problems such as staining, pipes scaling, and bad odors, and make water look unappetizing to drink, but they usually do not pose an immediate health threat except in very high concentration.

Water that contains impurities that are more serious health risks, such as bacteria, arsenic, radon and nitrates, must be evaluated by a state certified lab. Atlas can provide information on state certified labs in your area and take the test sample to ensure proper handling. If you prefer, you can take the sample yourself. Contact a state certified lab for a test kit and send them the sample to be evaluated, and call us when you have the results so we can begin designing a system to fix your water quality issues.

Contact us online or call: 800-215-9966 for more information about water testing, and certified testing lab information.

Commercial and Food Service Testing

Water in commercial building and food service establishments is usually already potable, but it may not be aesthetically pleasing or taste as pure as it could. We test for the common problems that cause water to taste “off,” stain fixtures and cause equipment malfunction.

High Purity Testing

Facilities that require high purity water should have an existing water quality testing system on site. The high level of purity required necessitates constant monitoring to ensure consistent quality. We can take a sample to be tested at a state certified lab to ensure that the correct purity level is being maintained. We also recommend a routine maintenance schedule that includes sending a test sample out periodically.
